Dakota Dave's Guide Service, LLC offers fishing guides throughout the state of North Dakota. Dave is based out of the Parshall Bay/Van Hook area. We provide year-round fishing trips in the state of North Dakota, fishing walleyes, perch, and northern pike. Summer Open Water trips will be based out of Parshall Bay ND. All Ice Fishing trips will be based out of Devils Lake, ND. With over 40 years of fishing Lake Sakakawea and the upper Missouri River, Dakota Dave will provide you with the fishing experience of a lifetime!

Cash, card, and electronic payments are accepted.
Can I book a trip for a large group?
The max group sizes are 12 people for summer fishing and 9 people for ice fishing.
What time do trips start?
Start times vary by season.

How long is a full-day trip vs a half-day trip?
- Full-day: Approximately 8 hours

Where do we meet?
Most trips begin at a designated boat landing or access point near Lake Sakakawea or Devils Lake. You’ll receive exact coordinates and directions prior to your trip.

What gear do you provide?
We provide all essential fishing gear including:
- Rods, reels, bait, tackle
- Ice shelters & heaters for winter trips
- Safety gear (life jackets, ice picks, etc.)
- Electronics (Vexilar, sonar, or equivalent)
- Transportation on the ice during winter trips
Do I need to bring my own gear?
You’re welcome to bring personal gear, but it’s not required. We provide everything needed for a successful day on the water or ice.
What should I bring on a summer trip?

- Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat
- Water/snacks
- Weather-appropriate clothing
What should I bring on an ice-fishing trip?
- ND fishing license
- Warm layered clothing
- Boots rated for sub-zero temps
- Snacks and drinks
We supply shelters, heaters, tackle, and transportation.
Do you clean and bag the fish?
Yes, fish cleaning and bagging are included.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety is always the priority. If conditions are unsafe (strong winds, storms, thin ice), we may reschedule or refund depending on the situation.
Is ice fishing safe?
Absolutely. We check ice thickness regularly, use safe travel routes, and only guide on safe, monitored areas.
Do trips still happen in very cold temperatures?
Yes—ice-fishing shelters are heated and comfortable. Extremely dangerous temperatures or blizzards may require rescheduling.
Is this trip beginner friendly?
Yes! All skill levels are welcome. Many guests are first-timers, families, or travelers. We teach every step of the process.
Can I bring kids?
Yes, children are welcome on both summer and winter trips. Life jackets are provided.
Can I keep the fish I catch?
Yes, within ND Game & Fish regulations for species and limits.
Can you help with mounting a trophy fish?
Yes. We can recommend taxidermy services or help coordinate the process.
What if I want photos or videos of the trip?
We are happy to take pictures for you. Many guests use the gallery photos on the website for trip ideas.

We can recommend convenient lodging options near Lake Sakakawea, Parshall Bay, Van Hook, Devils Lake, and Minot. For multi-day fishing trips, we'll provide you with accomodations.
Are pets allowed?
